I am posting this video throughout the week to make sure more people get the opportunity to watch it. This visual lecture appeals to me because of the color, creativity, and imagery that helps bring the research concepts home. Gives us real perspective that hopefully MOTIVATES us to have our bext day, our best year yet.

Please comment about how this video makes you feel, and what it has challenged in your thinking. How will this video inspire you to live well each day with more passion and diligence than before? Do tell.

Enjoy your Monday, look forward to family time this weekend, and find that spare 30 minutes.

Make movement happen.

namaste,

Cheri

Congratulations to Mary Halvorsen for a job well done as we’ve been training together since August this year. I am proud of your steady action toward better health and your numbers prove it! She’s down 15 lbs, moving more and feeling better, and her doctor’s happy with her. She came ready and armed to her last doctor visit with her food journal, exercise notes, and a list of questions we had prepared. She is looking to make enough positive change that she does not receive diagnosis nor need treatment for diabetes. Keep on truckin’ Mary – you can do this! You’re already proving that you’re capable.

So…down 15lbs, her a1c came down from 8.9 to 7.5 and her pants fit better. Looking good!

See Mary’s thoughts below through her training process…

1.  What have I learned from training together?

I’ve learned so much! I’ve learned it takes dedication, commitment, and hard work to become a more healthier me.  Cheri’s knowledge and insight into how to do this makes sense. She explains the use of journaling in both diet and excerise.  I like how we discuss the what, why, and how important it is to, (in a nutshell) move more!  I feel fortunate to be able to train with Cheri

2.  How has my daily life changed?

For starters, I now carry around my journal and blood test meter to note my finger pricks, what I eat, and to log my exercise.  It’s a part of me now.  I’m on my second book!  I feel my life has changed by being more aware/present of what, why, and when I eat. For example:  Am I hungry when I snack?  Do I really need to eat that?  I consider myself a food grazer.  A little bit here, then a couple hours later a little snack again.  Also, I’m working on this, but to not make excuses for not moving more!  I’m changing my habits for the better, and I feel so good.

3.  How do I feel now, both physically and mentally?

Better, it’s getting better all the time. (hmm.. I think this is a song title, Beatles comes to my mind) I give myself pep talks alot, you can do it or you really don’t need that, you’ll feel better in the long run.  And you know what, I truly do!  I’m not saying this is easy, but the results:  lowering my A1C (blood test) and shedding some pounds, I feel I’m following the path to better health and wellness

4.     Challenges, obstacles I’ve overcome ~ what and how?

I knew that going into the training sessions with Cheri would be a challenge in itself.  I consider myself  to eat  fairly healthy, love to cook and bake too.   To re-think why I eat, what or when I eat is a learning  process for me.  I’ve cleaned out my cupboards and fridge,  getting rid of  any temptations.  But you know, these temptations are around, all the time.  Hence, the pep talks.  I would say that excersise is also a challenge,  it’s easy to make excuses as to why not to.  Sometimes I feel a bit selfish to be taking the time to do so.  More pep talks!  I recently had my 3 month check-up with my Dr. He was happy to report my blood tests, my A1C went down, as did my weight.  I still have a long way to go, but feel I’m on the right path.

Thanks Mary – Cheers to you and thanks to Dave for supporting you through the process.

See you soon!

Cheri

Congratulations to Sara Ausman for her first time marathon on Sunday, October 2. I scoped out the course around mile 6 and felt so disappointed that I couldn’t spot her in the crowds. Jason and I drove across town to plant ourselves along the trail near Lake Street, somewhere after mile 17. We waited. I knew she was coming. The runners had broken free from the packs and pacers enough now that it was easier to scan for her. Patience. Then suddenly in a stunning blue top (and matching visor, of course) I saw her blonde hair and focused gaze. I think she’d have totally missed me – she was in the zone! I gladly came up alongside her and joined her until the 18 mile mark. She looked strong, determined, and in good spirits. She had her ipod along, and as I expected hadn’t even started using it yet. “I’m waiting til about mile 20,” she calmly stated. I am SO proud of your first marathon finish and can’t wait to see you Tuesday for your lesson!

Well done, Sara!

Twin Cities Marathon FINISHER!!!

Tomorrow we celebrate Mary’s success…stay tuned!
